Friday Finds: A CEO’s Secret to Success, 5G Wireless Networks, and Volvo Did What?

1. Warren Buffett gives the three-word mission for success

“Delight your customers”. Three words, simple to utter — impossible to forget. This was what the CEO and founder of $64.2 billion company Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett, shared to Golden Sach’s 10,000 Small Businesses program graduates at LaGuardia Community College.

Customers are the cornerstone of every successful business. Without customers, a business has no means of survival. Buffett’s philosophy is simple yet timeless and crucial to all businesses. Happy customers mean repeat sales, a good business reputation, and more opportunities to attract more customers.

2. 5G: The fastest wireless network is underway

Imagine downloading a movie in three seconds. Imagine doctors being able to perform remote surgical procedures. This is now a reality with 5G, as reported by Samsung's North American CEO, Gregory Lee. Early tests for the new 5G have proven that it is eight to ten times faster than today’s mobile network. 

The implications of faster Internet speed means the speed of technological access and technological development will begin to accelerate. As we head into the Internet of Things, it's important for all businesses to assess their digital capabilities to ensure they're not lagging behind. 

3. Volvo I-shift with crawler gears shows off its power

A single Volvo FH16, pulling 20 heavy-filled trailers, with a combined weight of about 750 tonnes, all from standstill. This is what happened when Volvo launched its I-shift transmission with crawler gears. See their successful and crazy attempt here.

What Volvo did was nothing short of mad creativity and adventure. Most of the time, it is easier to play safe and stay in the margins, making choices that could amount to zilch. But one of the things that makes brands stand out is the fearlessness to come up with creative and sometimes outrageous, ideas.
